cheers comma. I understand why he kept him on, and on his performance, I would have had a hard time choosing otherwise. maybe i'm just scarred from seeing him get injured so frequently, but I think his minutes should be strictly regulated and gradually tapered. he's been brought back too quickly on more than one occasion which is why I'm nervous for saturday. Also, Andy is never asking to come off unless he's injured which is great to have in a player, but all the more need to force baby steps with building match fitness.

I'm slightly perturbed by slav's comments in this article about Carroll only being planned for 30 minutes:

http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-boss-slaven-bilic-is-confident-of-finding-cure-for-bad-case-of-cramp-a3421146.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

I can fully sympathise with needing the win and starting him, although with only 2 appearances and his injury record, I was a bit worried about him starting. I had thought surely he would get 60 minutes and then be subbed, particularly with a game 72 hours later. Leaving his sub until the 83rd minute almost tripled his workload since his last 2 outings. Given his performance, it's difficult to leave him out of his starting spot on saturday, but again the injury record. I'm also fully aware of our frailty in the 2nd half and Andy's defensive contribution. If Slav pulls him and loses the 3 points, he's crucified for it. The players and fans would be further second-guessing him. All's well that end well I suppose, but it certainly creates a difficult decision for saturday.

Yep, Flyshitstain definitely has a point there about the clear lack of balls on the blue-rinse mess.

Anyway, the point is about our lack of second half incisiveness and why we struggle to pick up points at home with poor second half performances against what appears on paper mediocre opposition. And however frustrating it might be, the lack of width and movement in attack, poor distribution, tendency to drop deep and loss of initiative is a malaise not about individual players. Neither is it about just attack, midfield or defence but of the whole team and I'd say above all a general sense of imperative to avoid picking up more injuries.

So I very much hope that with an injury-free run and a few more points on the board, we will start looking more like a Premier League side bossing relegation strugglers in the second half at home rather than being like fodder ourselves.

This is what happens when you select players over the age of eighteen born outside the old County Borough of West Ham.

Watching Thickle and comma go at it on a football thread is like watching two daddy longlegs fighting.

Neither of them can work out what they are doing and ultimately both are completely impotent and devoid of well anything really.

When did 'being pleased with 3 points' mean the same as 'over the moon to get three points'?

Can you point to anyone who has said they are 'over the moon'?

Don't watch Chelsea games, Flyshitstain. But they seem to have gone six clear at the top so when do you think they'll stop flirting with relegation?

You wally.

The only dictionary that seems to have griod is the Urban Dictionary.

Camel appears to be calling Payet a folding bigot.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Burnley - The Official Match Thread
Our possession last night was really dysfunctional imo - as we all knew before the match, Burnley were going to sit deep and let us have the ball so what we did with it was important. Yet our plan A seemed to be long punts up at Carroll, which suits none of our ball-players at all. Noble also played so far ahead of the ball all night we basically had possession but with no real midfield to link up the play. And with Payet and Lanzini both coming into the centre all the time it was incredibly congested when we did get the ball on the deck in their half - little triangles of too-intricate passing that work once in a blue moon. But playing that so narrow robs us of width so Cresswell and Antonio weren't in the game enough either. So it was a bizarre mix of styles, none of which really fit with each other, and none working properly. Back to the drawing board on the training pitch imo.

I don't think that we will play much differently against Hull. Once again it will be the result that counts and another clean sheet would suit us down to the ground.

Naturally it should be the duty of Hull to lie down and let us walk all over them.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Burnley - The Official Match Thread
It would be great to dismiss these teams but looking around at the top of the table only Liverpool seem to be able to do that this season. Chelsea nicked a couple of 1-0 wins against WBA and sunderland, Man city struggled at home to Boro as well, Man Utd drew at home to Burnley. Its simply not that easy to dismiss 'weaker' teams at home these days, especially when out of form, and its not just us
